In all my paintings, the animal is at the centre. Surrounding it are the things that define the animal. This is how beauty is characterized. You need to characterize beauty by association. I have learned to worship beauty. Not ordinary beauty but that in its stormiest nature.

An exhibition of paintings by Frida Kahlo, held in 2010 at the Museo de Arte de Puebla, Mexico, featured over 200 works by the artist. When she was asked about her work, Frida said: “I paint the animal and what surrounds it: the flower and the rock and the tree. All of these things are connected to the animal.” Her work represents a way of thinking that is personal and unique from others.
